Purpose

To showcase fine contemporary craft by artists in the State by Florida. The exhibition will feature both innovations and traditional expressions of craft art, and will serve as a common forum for craft artists of all persuasions and the public. Florida Craftsmen is a statewide, not-for-profit arts service organization established in 1952 to encourage recognition of fine contemporary craftwork through exhibitions, educational opportunities and statewide craft activities. In keeping with this mission, excellence of craftsmanship, concept and design will be the criteria used in the selection of works for the 48th Exhibition.

Artist Eligibility

The 48th Exhibition is open to artists 18 years of age or older who are a member of Florida Craftsmen, Inc. and a current resident of Florida. Non-members become eligible upon payment of Florida Craftsmen dues. If not current, annual membership dues must be received along with the exhibition entry form and are effective for one year from date of receipt.

Work Eligible

A maximum of three entries per artist may be submitted in any fine craft medium, including clay, wood, fiber, metal, glass, paper, jewelry and mixed media. Entries must be original, executed within the last two years, and not previously shown in a Florida Craftsmen exhibition.

Juror
Carolyn A. Hecker

Carolyn A. Hecker, Director Emeritus of the Maine Crafts Association, received a BA from Gettysburg College and an MA from American University in Arts Administration. She received an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the Maine College of Art in 1994 and is currently President of Ronald Hayes Pearson, Inc., a fine jewelry business dedicated to the preservation, production, and exhibition of her late husband’s lifetime of work in contemporary craft. In the 1970s, Carolyn was Education Program Coordinator for the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program at the Smithsonian Institution and later became Associate Director of Appalachiana craft gallery in Alexandria, VA. That position led her to become Director of Greenwood Gallery in Washington, DC before her move to Deer Isle, Maine, where she currently resides.
