CraftArt 2003 Event Postponed - 2004 Hopeful
By Diane Arthur
My first experience with Florida Craftsmen occurred over 18 years ago. Michele Tuegel handed me a membership brochure at the Dunedin Art Harvest show and my life changed. The Gallery was still a dream at that point, but we were determined to make it a reality.
I became the first Gallery Director and worked for the organization as Administrative Director as well for the first two years. I then served a term as Treasurer of the Board of Directors, followed by a term as President.
I return to the organization as President at a very exciting time in our history and in our future. We have purchased a building to house our organization¹s offices, retail gallery and exhibition spaces.
We are celebrating 50 years of past accomplishments with a wonderful exhibition and conference in DeLand at The DeLand Museum of Art and at Stetson University, where Florida Craftsmen first began. And we have developed an incredible statewide, national and international reputation as a professional crafts organization.
At this time, our Board is engaged in the process of addressing where we have been and where we are going as an organization. It is a time for reflection, identifying our strengths and weaknesses and planning confidently and effectively for our future.
To this end, the Board voted in December to postpone the CraftArt 2003 event and to form a task force committee for the purpose of strategizing CraftArt for our future.
This committee has met and is in the process of gathering information to present to the Board in June.
We also held a Board Retreat in February to brainstorm the future of Florida Craftsmen and will continue the process of strategic planning throughout this year. If you have questions or comments regarding CraftArt, please email board member Sally Bedrosian at [email protected] and put CraftArt in the subject line.
It is an exciting time for me, and a perfect time for members to help in this planning process. Your input is valuable and welcomed. Please let me know your thoughts. Together we can create another wonderful 50 years!
