Area 1 - Pensacola and the Panhandle

Area 2 - Tallahassee and Vicinity

Steve Fox and Area 1 members met in Tallahassee in March to discuss the FC 2010 Business Plan, proposals for exhibitions at the Museum of Arts and Science (The Brogan) and ways to expand membership and participation in FC area wide activities.

Area 3 - Gainesville and North Central Florida

Marie Wood (co-director) reports that there is a movement to restore downtown Ocala and encourage artist studios and workshops. At the moment, Marion County Community Education is offering some classes. The Artist Hub, a spin off of the continued education department, is also offering classes but as far as fine craft, there is a need. Ocala has The Appleton Museum which has some wonderful exhibits and also offers demonstrations once a month.

In spring, Area 3 have a juried show downtown (F.A.F.O Fine Arts for Ocala) that brings in fine art and crafts.

Area 4 - Jacksonville and NE Florida

Area 5 - Tampa Bay and Vicinity

Maria Saraceno - I organized an Area 5 meeting in December (attended by about 20 people) it helped our gallery sales for the day and got us some new memberships and exposed the organization for the first time to about 12 people. I will organize similar events in the spring.

Tampa artist Pam Moody displayed her one of a kind work at the Wildlife Gallery in Lutz during the month of February.

Area 6 - Orlando to the Mid-East Coast

Eva Walsh sends kudos to DeLAnd artist Tim Ludwig. He is participating in "Back to the Garden" Show that opened March 3rd at the Blue Spiral Gallery in Asheville, NC. Also to Martha Lent for participating in Addition & Abstraction with Martha Jo Mahoney at the Maitland Art Center last November.

Area 7 - Southwest Florida (Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee Counties)

Muffy Clark Gill recently met with Taylor Wells, Executive Director of the Von Liebig Arts Center in Naples to explore displaying future shows. He is particularly interested in "Twist and Shout". Muffy plans to take Mr. Wells and a group of Naples Art Association members known as "The Contemporaries" to different Florida Craftsmen events in the state to familiarize them with our programs. Muffy has also toured the grounds of the Naples branch of Edison Community College to explore future show and workshop sites. Meanwhile, she has signed up new members for Florida Craftsmen at recent meetings of the Southwest Florida Craftsmen in Ft. Myers and is looking for a Lee county member to assist with local programs.

Area 8 - Fort Lauderdale to Fort Pierce

Kevin Kichar reports that two of our members have received the Broward County's "Duane Hanson Allied Artist Award." LeeAnna Yater will be collaborating with Public Artist Dan Corson. Their project, unveiled during Broward County's "30 years of Public Art Celebration," will be a forty-foot sculpture evoking the image and beauty of Florida's Mangrove trees. Visit Leeanna's latest work, an exterior handbuilt tile wall sculpture, at the Broward Community College's Tiger Tail Watersports facility and conference center. The next project scheduled at the facility will involve an underwater sculpture garden in the lake.

Kevin Kichar was also received the award. He will be collaborating with Public Artist Pam Beyette from Seattle, WA. Their project will be the fabrication, construction, and integration of tile artwork for the exterior vestibule floors for the Hollywood International Airport. Some twenty-two entranceways are involved.

Area 8 and 9 artists exhibited at the Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum in Ft. Lauderdale on view until \ March 10th. Demonstrations of woodworking, basketry, jewelry, pottery and weaving were presented. On March 5th a reception and short meeting was held. This location is surrounded by the Sunday Jazz Brunch offered by the City Of Fort Lauderdale.

Area 9 - Miami to the Keys

Abbey Chase reports that South Florida ceramic artists Christine Federighi, Bonnie Seeman, Bryan Hiveley and McKenzie Smith are Florida Craftsmen artists included in "Tactile Appeal" a group show to be held at the National Council on the Education of the Ceramic Arts conference in Portland, OR.

Federighi and Seeman were awarded 2005-2006 Florida Individual Artist Fellowships in Visual Arts/Clay. Bonnie also just received a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation 2005 Biennial Competition award. Christine Lush-Rodriguez will be exhibiting her ceramic sculptures at the Art Expo, New York in March.

Elmer Craig's "Contemporary Cuneiform, KBR" was awarded 2nd Place in the juried exhibition, VIEWPOINT at the Hyde Art Gallery; Grossmont College, El Cajon, CA. The award is accompanied with a cash award.

Pam Neumann, President, Ceramic League of Miami-Dade, announced that the Ceramic League opened its 56th Member's Exhibition March 3 at One Brickell Square Gallery. The juried exhibition was on view until March 30. The juror is Jeff Oestreich. Also, League members are selling their work Sunday mornings at Gardner's Farmers Market from 8 am to 1 pm, located off US1 at SW 124 Street.

Miami artist Erman has been busy working with Art Basel and most recently he participated in the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator at the 1st International Diaspora Artists Biennale that was held in the Bahamas. He said "Amazing doesn't explain the experience". There were seminars from "intellectual property and legalities about art and the artist's proprietorship", interactive group sessions, chat forums and presentations which included idea exchanges and opinions. Erman installed three new pieces and documented them, since they were site specific, in nature and abandoned to the elements.

Fiber artist Bonnie Askowitz had her piece "ha' Ima shel ha' Aretz--Earth Mother" accepted into Slocumb Galleries' Positive/Negative Exhibition at East Tennessee State University.

One of Benjia (Bunny) Morgenstern's fabulous baskets will appear in the Lark Book... 500 BASKETS (an international selection) being published this April. The baskets were judged by Jan Peters (owner of Del Mano Gallery in Los Angeles). Morgenstern also is exhibiting in the Florida Craftsmen gallery exhibition: UNRESTRICTED that opened in April in St. Petersburg.

Diane Almeyda will be participating in an exhibition in Lyon, France with the International Guild of Miniature Artisans:"Fellow and Artisan members of IGMA have been extended an invitation to participate in a grand exhibition in Lyon, France. Dan Ohlmann and Valerie Hostachy of Le Musée International de la Miniature are arranging a temporary exhibition honoring America, commencing September 1, 2006 - March 31, 2007."

Kudos to Margarita Abue, she was awarded Fist Place Fiber in the 55th annual Beaux Arts Festival of Art in Coral Gables, FL.

Several Florida Craftsmen members were selected to participate in the ACC Southeast Spotlight Show that is being held at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. They are: Tom Brewer (Area 6), Pete Kuentzel (Area 9), Eleanor McCain (Area 2) and Elena Sheppa (Area 5).

Kudos to Rose Quintana. Her mosaic work has been selected for the Beneath The Surface exhibition at the 2006 SAMA Member`s Juried Exhibition, which will be at the High Risk Gallery in Chicago from March 1-31, 2006.
