Artists' Application Deadline Extended to September 7 2005
Florida Craftsmen will celebrate its 51st year as a statewide organization promoting fine craft art with an juried exhibit of works by many of the best craft artists in Florida.
The exhibit will open November 3, 2005, and continue until December 15, 2005, at the Broward Community College Fine Arts Gallery in Ft. Lauderdale.
The deadline for artists to apply for the show has been extended to Wednesday, September 7, 2005. Interested artists may download the exhibition application form here.
The 51st Exhibition is open to artists 18 years of age or older who are a member of Florida Craftsmen, Inc. and a current resident of Florida. Non-member Florida residents or dual residents living at least six months per year become eligible upon payment of Florida Craftsmen dues. If not current, annual membership dues must be received along with the exhibition entry form as a separate check and are effective for one year from date of receipt.
A maximum of three entries per artist may be submitted in any fine craft medium, including clay, wood, fiber, metal, glass, paper, jewelry and mixed media. Entries must be original, executed within the last two years, and not previously shown in a Florida Craftsmen exhibition.
Juried by Lewis Wexler
The exhibition will be juried by Lewis Wexler, Owner/ Director of Wexler Gallery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Lewis Wexler began his career in the arts as Assistant Vice President of 20 th Century Decorative Arts at Christie's auction house in New York City. Following his work at Christie's, Lewis worked with world-renowned French art Deco dealer Anthony Delorenzo at his Madison Avenue gallery.
In 2000 Lewis opened the Wexler Gallery in historic Old City Philadelphia. In his 5,600 square foot gallery space Lewis is able to showcase the very best of decorative and fine art. The gallery exhibits works by Wendell Castle, Albert Paley and Dale Chihuly, among others. He has lectured at the Renwick and the Furniture Society Conference. Lewis has been on the jury to select work for the Philadelphia Craft Show, the Smithsonian Craft Show and the Washington Craft Show.
Lewis sits on the board of the Old City Arts Association and the Creative Glass Center of Philadelphia and the Creative Glass Center of America. He is a member of the Renwick Alliance, The Furniture Society and the Art Alliance of Contemporary Glass.
